Happy New Year, everyone. We’ve started January with a lot of action and there’s plenty to share as the high school season approaches.
Polar Bear League Game Day 2
Once again AquaTex did a great job hosting our Polar Bear Game Day on Sunday the 13th despite the chill. More kudos to all the athletes and families who put in significant time making it run smoothly.
First, congratulations to our 14u and 12u teams (with basically the same athletes) who had three big wins and one understandable loss to a Longhorn team made up of 18u girls. Riley and Declan continued their very high quality defense, while Joey had yet more great saves against some strong shooters. Luca has become our catch-and-score expert, while David put on a show with one of the best off-speed shots of the season. Liam and Nilmary continue to anchor the defense on our 14u squad, and young Nico is getting some great experience as he begins his water polo career.
The 18u team started off the day with a loss to an experienced Longhorn side, though showed signs of real effort and strength. The Zach and Jack show in front of the cage was a whitewater frenzy, including some surprising quick scores. Sam is showing off her new-found turn-and-go skills, while Michael and Colby show off their cannons from the outside. The second game against Zilla was a forfeit win and another chance to take on some talented players from both Zilla and Longhorn in an exhibition. Well done to them, Jake, Alexander, Diego, Nathan, Zairis, Dylan, Evan, and Tristan.
Scores are complete as Championships will be here in two weeks.
Dare to Dream Tournament
The schedule is out for this coming weekend’s Dare to Dream Tournament in Houston. Our 12u athletes will be there combined with Longhorn as usual.
Saturday Scrimmage
While our 12u players are in Houston we’ll have a scrimmage against Longhorn on Saturday with all our older athletes. Another good chance for us to work on the specific skills we use in practice.
