The deadline approaches for the last age-group tournament (in a pool) of the summer. Plus, we’re getting ready for some beach polo. Read on.
Titan Summer Spectacular Roster Call
July 26 is the deadline for the Titan tournament in The Colony on August 3-4. Our fearless parent rep Danny Dixon has heard from some of our 14u families but we want ALL of them to attend. Plus there are some very reasonable hotel rates that weekend. Let Danny or Coach James know soon, and/or log on and commit via the Team Unify site.
Zilla Beach Water Polo Tourney Details
We now know much more about Zilla’s Beach Polo Tourney at the end of August, and it looks like a VERY fun event. It will take place at Volente Beach Resort & Water Park, which includes water slides, pools, a lake front beach, full bar and restaurant, sand volleyball court, and more. Players and coaches are covered under team entry fees including 1 allowed cooler. Volente is offering significant discounts for non-players. Non-player entry fees are $19.99 for the weekend for full use of the park, or $12.99 for the weekend for use of the park except the slides, or $10 single day spectator pass. Weekend cooler fee is $10 and weekend parking pass is $7. Tickets can be purchased directly through the water park at www.volentebeach.com or at the gate.
Games are played using beach waterpolo rules: 4 on 4 field players plus goalies; continuous play and live-time substitutions; first team to five goals wins the game; first team to win three games wins the match. Rosters are only between 5-9 athletes so we should field AT LEAST one 14u coed team and an 18u coed team. You can find the entire event description and can commit here (scroll down to find the event). Unfortunately the tournament will NOT include a masters/open division as previously indicated.
Our athletes will begin training for beach rules this week, so don’t miss practice.
Junior Olympics
Our Longhorn mates have seen some very good results over the first two days of Junior Olympics.
18U Boys (Competing in 18U classic)
At 3-2, the 18U squad is on pace for the best ever result from a Longhorn team at JOs. Biggest game of the tournament so far was the 11-7 victory over Maverick that claimed our first win on day 1 of JOs in program history. The 18s are guaranteed to finish top 6 in bronze and will see competition next against Team Vegas on Monday at noon.
16U Boys (Competing in 16U Invitational)
The 16U squad picked up a huge win on Sunday over American River C to bring their record to 1-3 with two days remaining in the tournament. Next up, the 16U boys will hit the water at noon on Monday against SOAC.
The girls, including Sam, begin their tournament on July 5. Follow her 18u Longhorn team and all the other games here.
See you on the deck,
James
